Chia Toronto 2025 Meetup Recap

On May 13, 2025, ninety-five registered participants showed up to the largest Chia community meetup to date in Toronto, Canada. The event was attended by a delegation from Chia Network Inc. (including Bram, Thomas, and Gene), many notable community developers, farmers both big and small, project founders, Permuto Capital team and partners, and even a Bitcoin core developer.

Big shoutout to all folks that travelled from around the globe to be there! The meetup was part of Canada Crypto Week and many attendees stayed to carry the good vibes through the rest of the week.

Stickers, caps, NFTs and more

Each attendee received a handmade button with their name and (often more recognizable) profile picture. Thank you to @steppsr for creating these!

Attendees also received a Chia Toronto 2025 baseball cap courtesy of Chia Network Inc. These caps had an embedded NFC tag that encoded a single-sided Offer File containing an NFT digital twin — a real world implementation of two recent CHIPs:

Ecosystem projects also handed out stickers and other collectibles.

Summary of Talks

Much of the evening consisted of talks from a broad variety of speakers. I’ll just provide a short summary of each as all talks were recorded and you can expect them to be made available on Chia Network’s official YouTube channel eventually.

Keynote: Gene Hoffman

Keynote by Gene Hoffman (Photo credit: @acevail_)

Gene kicked off the evening with a keynote discussing a brief history of the Chia project so far and laying out the expectations on what the next year looks like from CNI’s perspective. He stressed the impact of the community and the importance of their role in achieving the collective common goal of creating demand and usage for secure block space. Gene ended with an announcement of the upcoming Cloud Wallet feature for US citizens to purchase XCH directly from the prefarm using their bank account via ACH.

This new XCH on-ramp is made possible by the new Clawback v2 standard (CHIP-0044) and will increase accessibility for individuals and institutions to acquire XCH that otherwise don’t have access to or are not comfortable using the limited number of centralized exchanges that list XCH. It is expected for these direct sales of the prefarm to offset sales through CNI’s market maker, and any excess direct sales can be balanced through buying XCH back from the open market.

“One Market Liquidity” by Yakuhito

Yakuhito (warp.green, TibetSwap, XCHandles, CATalog), walked through the history of AMMs on Chia from the first yakuSwap to the popular TibetSwap v2. He also discussed the opportunities he sees to improve efficiency of the current constant product model by leveraging his recent innovation of Action Layer and Slots.

Yak announced his upcoming project (simply called TibetSwap) that will have similarities to the Aerodrome incentive model and will support CAT-CAT pairs with concentrated liquidity pools. Yak is really showing that anything can be built with Chialisp!

Rigidity (Sage Wallet, Fancy Fauna, Chia Network) introduced an upcoming feature of the Sage Wallet, known as Sage Actions. This allows users to combine actions (send, mint, assign, transfer etc.) arbitrarily to simplify multi-step processes. For example, one could take multiple offers at once to realize an arbitrage opportunity, or automatically split coins before making an offer. This could be an important step towards a more friendly user experience by abstracting complexities with the coinset model.

“Sols Lot Pro” by Matthew

Other Gatherings

Some of the best moments of the week came from the numerous ad-hoc lunches and dinners with all the Chia community members in town. Here are some other gatherings happening throughout the week:

Final thoughts

I’m thankful to get to shake hands with so many people I’ve only talked to on social media and spaces. Thank you again to all that attended from around the globe and to the presenters for sharing their experiences and projects.

I hear there’s already talk of organizing other meetups: Austin, Detroit, Miami, and of course Toronto 2026, so stay tuned!

Finally, please send me your photos to be included in this recap!
